Week 4

Image
Week 4 of Course Connection saw the development of a new home screen using android fragments. This layout will allow the user to navigate through the app without having to open new activities. This was a desirable format for our app, as we always wanted to implement a tab bar that can be used to navigate between different sections of the application. (As seen in the provided page from our original storyboard )       When fully implemented, these tabs will serve as a useful tool to switch between the professor leaderboard, course/professor reviews, and course forums. This should help the application to feel more navigable.  This will also aid us functionally, as fragments have built in utility to allow for saving states, and is less intensive than opening new activities.

Week 3

Image
It is week three of our development of Course Connection. We are at the point in the semester where we will need to really kick our work into gear and focus on each aspect of our app as the deadlines begin to approach. This week we are wrapping up the tech tutorials we mentioned last week in our blog. With these out of the way, a majority of class time will now be used to discuss the project and get work done.       The progress of our project will be tracked by both our updates here on our blog, as well as our code updates on our team Github repository. This week we made our first set of pushes onto our repository with some introductory features of our app. One of these core functions is limiting user access to users with a augustana.edu email address. Since this is an app developed for use by Augie students, we want their voices to be the only ones present. Part of the problem we saw with other services with similar function to our app was that ...

Week Two

Image
This week was our second week working as a team on our project. We focused this week on a separate assignment we are working in the same group for instead, though. Due Tuesday, March 16, our group is supposed to present a "Tech Tutorial" to the rest of our Senior Inquiry class on a chosen technology. Our group chose to present on how to access your phone's camera using an app made in Android Studio.  Originally we had chosen this particular technology since we planned on using the device's camera to take pictures of textbooks for our in-app textbook marketplace, but the marketplace as a whole has been designated a "wish list" item at this point in time.      In fact, the marketplace is not the only item that has been moved to "wish list" status. We received feedback  for our official team project proposal this week, and our list of desired features in our app was deemed a bit too ambitious. Of course, we are first time app developers so it is...

The Project Begins!

Image
As Computer Science majors at Augustana College, we are enrolled in a senior inquiry course to finish out our educational career at Augustana. The largest portion of the grade for this class is a project that we work on in teams. Our team is made up of Chase Fahy, Jason Palmer, and Mitchell Knollenberg. This week we put together our official team proposal for our chosen topic for our project, including a mock-up of the UI we would like to create, the rationale for the app existing, and some features the final product would have.        The project we would like to work on is an Android app that would allow Augustana students to leave ratings for courses they have taken in the past as well as leave ratings for professors they have takenclasses with. Our idea for an app name so far would be "Augie Course Connection". Our reasoning behind this idea is because students often like to leave feedback on a specific course or professor a...
